ABOUT THE ARTIST

Katie Coleman is a writer and visual artist living in Portland, Maine with her sweet pup Timber. She is a Master of Fine Arts candidate at the Maine College of Art, where her work explores the system of language as one of authority through text-based and installation work.

it strikes me how destabilizing ideas of sanctuary can be, or at least how fluctuant. perhaps safety is a deeply psychological space. a vehicle moving 80 miles an hour lulls me to sleep. focusing my gaze to a digestible window gives me license to record things i might otherwise look away from or overlook altogether. respite seems to be this space of intense flux. it’s physical. it's also intangible. it’s expanse and enclosure. maybe it depends on the nature of the quotidian details of that moment
